In a time when so many of us have learned the fine art of contacting elected officials, here is one more very pressing concern.

In spite of so many people in so many states working so hard for common sense gun laws, The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2025 ( H.R. 38/ S. 65) is winding through Congress. This law, if enacted, would require every state to honor the concealed carry rules of every other state.

Boiled down, this means that a person allowed to carry a concealed weapon under the weakest standards in the country would be free to carry in states with stronger safeguards in place. It would override states that currently require permits, background checks, training and higher minimum age requirements.

National reciprocity is logically going to result in more guns in more communities and I can only imagine a lot of confusion for law enforcement trying to figure out how to enforce the law. I believe this is not the way to prevent gun violence, it’s not the way to protect our communities, and it’s sure not the way to protect our kids.
