New buyers have expressed interest in scooping up Hermon’s ski mountain.

The identities of the interested buyers haven’t been disclosed, but Hermon Mountain Ski Area said Tuesday that they have “strong local ties.”

The group is under contract to buy the ski area. The sale hasn’t closed yet, but “momentum is strong and the outlook is encouraging,” according to the owners.

“Most importantly, this group is committed to keeping Hermon Mountain a ski area and honoring its long-standing role in the community,” the owners said in a social media post.

The mountain on Newburgh Road in Hermon first opened to the public for skiing in 1960 and now has three chairlifts serving 20 marked trails, a tubing hill and a lodge. It has been family operated for the past three decades, according to its website.

The 67.5-acre ski area property and business have been for sale since 2022 and was listed for $2.1 million in October.

An earlier sale fell through, and in October, the owners, who said this will be their last year operating the mountain, suggested the mountain could be turned into “housing lots or something” if no buyer came forward.

The owners said Tuesday that the prospective buyers have an “exciting vision” to make the mountain a year-round destination, with ideas for serving as a venue for weddings and other events, expanding outdoor recreational activities, and strengthening its winter operations.
