Police have ruled this week’s deaths in Tremont a murder-suicide.
William Hawley, 75, and 78-year-old Jyoti Hawley, both of Tremont, were found dead about 8:57 a.m. Tuesday at a Big Rocks Road home in the small town on Mount Desert Island, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Moss said Friday that Jyoti’s death was ruled a homicide and William’s a suicide.
Both died from gunshot wounds.
William Hawley was born in Bronxville, New York, and was a composer whose work has been performed all across the country, Europe and Asia, according to his website. He had long lived in Maine with his wife Jyoti.
