BLUE HILL — Bagaduce Music invites the public to shake up their midweek routine with Second Wednesday House Concert Series, a brand-new monthly music series that blends the warmth of a house concert with the buzz of a community party. The series will feature regional and local high caliber musicians across genres, offers lower ticket prices than Bagaduce’s weekend concerts and is designed to make it easy — and affordable — to drop in and enjoy world-class music in the middle of the week.

Each Second Wednesday evening unfolds as a full musical experience. From 5–6 p.m. join Bagaduce Music’s regular Wednesday Free Guided Jam open to all. Dinner will be available on our campus from the kitchen of Conscious Café for purchase from 6–7:30 p.m. Eat, mingle and enjoy. The night culminates in a 7:30 p.m. concert from our featured band.

Kicking off the series on Wednesday Jan. 14 is the Gawler Family Band, a beloved, fun-loving, fiddling family whose music radiates joy. John and Ellen Gawler — master fiddle and banjo players — are joined by their daughters Molly, Edith and Elsie, along with Bennett Konesni and Ethan Tischler. Together, they create a gorgeous, high-spirited sound featuring fiddle, banjo, guitar, cello, bass and rich harmony singing.

Rooted in the traditional music of Maine and the Northeast, the Gawlers are especially known for their rollicking Downeast-style dance tunes, shaped by Scots-Irish and French Canadian traditions and honed through years of playing for dances in old Grange halls. Their repertoire ranges widely — from gutsy shanties and work songs to heart-wrenching ballads, poignant a cappella numbers featuring the sisters, and humorous songs celebrating everyday life in rural Maine. Woven throughout are anecdotes — historical, personal and often laugh-out-loud funny — that make each performance feel like a shared story.

The evening takes place at Bagaduce Music, 49 South St. Blue Hill. Tickets to the concert are available at the door with a $15–$30 suggested donation, food available for additional purchase.
