MADAWASKA, Maine — The Hannaford store at 58 Main St. in Madawaska is recalling ground beef purchased on Tuesday, Jan. 13, with a sell-by date of Jan. 16 because the items may contain foreign material, according to a press release issued by the grocery chain on Tuesday.

The recall specifically applies to both 80% lean and 85% lean ground beef, with the UPC numbers 213779, 242214, 223126, and 223127.

“Customers should check their storage and freezer areas for this product and not eat the product,” Hannaford officials stated in a release Tuesday evening. “Product or its packaging may be returned to the store for a full refund.”

The advisory is being made “out of an abundance of caution,” company officials said.

No injuries or illnesses have been reported, and this is a single-store advisory that only applies to the Madawaska site.
