Susan Collins is now essentially taking credit for kicking ICE out of Maine. On Jan. 29 her website announced ICE had ceased enhanced operations in Maine after Collins spoke with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. On the same day Collins voted to advance a Department of Homeland Security funding bill that would continue fully funding ICE without what I consider sufficient reforms or accountability.
Collins has long supported ICE funding despite finally voting against the Big Beautiful Bill, which awarded ICE over $75 billion. Collins voted to move the bill from committee to the Senate floor, likely knowing that the GOP had the votes to pass it there without her.
Does Collins believe that Mainers don’t care about our fellow Americans? Thousands of us took to the streets in support of Minneapolis.
Last year, Collins voted to confirm Lee Zeldin as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. On Jan 12, the New York Times reported that the Environmental Protection Agency would cease to calculate the negative health impacts of air pollution in its future rulemaking process and only consider industry costs.
Now Collins is running campaign ads about delivering millions to upgrade Maine’s drinking water.
I wish Collins would stop throwing us occasional bones while largely supporting President Donald Trump’s agenda.
