Senior left wing Owen Fowler scored a pair of goals, junior right wing Josh Nadeau had a goal and two assists and freshman goalie Mathis Rousseau made 25 saves and picked up an assist as the University of Maine’s hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to four games.
The Black Bears earned a 4-0 Hockey East victory over Northeastern at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland on Friday night.
UMaine, which is now 3-0-1 in its last four games, improved to 17-12-3 overall and 11-10-1 in Hockey East while the Huskies fell to 15-16-1 and 10-12, respectively.
The teams will conclude their series at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass. on Saturday night at 7.
These games were originally scheduled to be Northeastern’s home games but NU’s Matthews Arena is being demolished.
Fowler’s two-goal game was his second in as many games as he had two in a 5-2 win over Merrimack last Saturday night.
He opened the scoring at the 11:16 mark of the first period when he picked up the puck behind the net, skated in front to the right of NU goalie Lawton Zacher and beat him with a quick backhander.
Nadeau and Sully Scholle picked up assists.
He made it 2-0 at the 6:56 mark of the second period while shorthanded.
He poked the puck free from an NU defenseman at the defensive blue line and broke in alone on Lacher before snapping a wrist shot past him from the low slot. It was his 11th goal of the season.
Senior defenseman and co-captain Brandon Holt Holt scored on a five-on-three power play 4:4:22 later with a one-timer from the middle of the slot off a Miguel Marques pass. Nadeau also picked up an assist.
Nadeau scored his 16th just 1:20 later with the one-man advantage when he capitalized on a 2-on-0 break with Marques off a long pass from goalie Rousseau. Marques also earned an assist.
Nadeau now has six goals in his last three games.
Nadeau was the Hockey East Player of the Week last week and Holt was the Defender of the Week.
Lacher finished with 42 saves on 46 shots.
Rousseau’s shutout was his second of the season.
