A 14-year-old boy was shot in Lewiston on Thursday afternoon.

The 13-year-old suspect has been charged with elevated aggravated assault, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

The suspect allegedly shot the boy in the leg about 4:30 p.m. on Avon Street.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, screaming and many other teens running from the scene.

He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

Police detained several teens and seized three guns, two of which were stolen. A second teen, a 15-year-old boy, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Both suspects have been taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

The shooting remains under investigation.
