One person is dead after a crash that closed Route 9 in Eddington on Monday afternoon.
The crash near the Eddington Fire Department was reported just after 1 p.m.
First responders determined that a van traveling west on Route 9 had crossed the road and crashed head-on with a work vehicle that was legally parked in the breakdown lane, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the van, who was not identified by police, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the parked work vehicle, who was not identified by police, was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
