The South Portland High School boys and Scarborough girls track teams made the trip to Cameron Stadium in Bangor worthwhile on Saturday as each claimed state Class A championships.
The South Portland boys racked up an impressive 98 points to win their third straight state title. Portland (69.75), Lewiston (62), Deering of Portland (51) and Bangor (48.75) completed the top five and rounding out the top 10 were Brunswick (40), Gorham (36.50), Bonny Eagle of Buxton (36), Mt. Ararat of Topshan (35) and Hampden Academy (32).
There were 27 teams.
Scarborough girls edged Falmouth by four points to capture the girls title.
Scarborough had 91.33 points, Falmouth tallied 87.33 points and completing the top 10 were Hampden Academy (74.50), Bangor (70), Cheverus/Waynflete of Portland (69), Marshwood of Eliot (63), Brunswick (51), Massabesic of Waterboro (38), South Portland (24) and Sanford (23.33).
In the girls meet, Scarborough was led by senior Isabella Harmon who won the 100 hurdles (15.49) and the high jump (5-2), finished second to Hampden Academy’s Alexis Hamel (11-0) in the pole vault and fifth to Marshwood’s Anna Jennings (18-07) in the long jump.
Harmon was one of three girls to win two individual events with the others being Hampden Academy’s Addison Elliott in the 800 (2:17.10) and the 600 (4:54.75) and Jennings, who also won the 400 (58:03).
The other individual winners were Brunswick’s Elliette Musica in the 100 (12.79), Cheverus/Waynflete’s Macey Weisberg in the 200 (26.02), Falmouth’s Georgia Moon in the 3200 (10:42.54), Bangor’s Taylor Scales in the 300 hurdles (45.85), Marshwood’s Sydney Leveille in the triple jump (37-04), Windham’s Annabelle Harris in the shot put (35-10.5), Brunswick’s Liz Green in the discus (118-03), Massabesic’s Siena Carbone in the javelin (101-03) and Falmouth’s Cassidy Bishop in the 1600 race walk (8:42.12).
The relay team winners were Hampden Academy’s Breah Curtis, Kelsey Ball, Erin Curtis and Madi DiCentes in the 4 by 100 (49.89) and Falmouth teams in the 4 by 400 (Myanna Chue, Hadley Perry, Elle Foley and Georgia Moon), who clocked a 4:10.36, and the 4 by 800 (Madison McGonagle, Sara Tennent, Parker Fox and Elle Foley), who finished in 9:54.51.
In the boys meet, powering the Red Riots were winners Anthony Nielsen in the 800 (1:58.21), Devin Berry in the 100 hurdles (15.26) and Bossay Ditanduka in the long jump (22-04 1/4).
The only one to win two individual events was Bonny Eagle’s Drew Gervais, who won the 100 (11:07) and 200 (21.84).
The other individual winners were Brunswick’s Ethan Patterson in the 400 (49.43), Scarborough’s Atticus Merriam in the 1600 (4:16.50), Deering’s Ellis Wood in the 3200 (9:22.48) and Abdulkadir Munye in the 300 hurdles (39:34), Lewiston’s Larson Stone in the high jump (6-04), Edwasrd Little of Auburn’s Thomas LeBlanc in the pole vault (15-0), Lewiston’s Nsungui Mankatu in the triple jump (45-08 3/4), Camden Hills of Rockport’s Emmett Milliken in the shot put (54-04 1/4), Bangor’s Jake Bassi in the discus (173-09), Portland’s Cordell Jones in the javelin (162-00) and Mt. Ararat’s Ian Britt in the 1600 race walk (6:24.55).
The relay race winners were Brunswick’s Jansen Weaver, Simon Stadnicki, Ethan Patterson, Sebastian Martini in the 4 by 100 (43:09); Gorham’s Brayden Logan, Nick Sallinen, Adam Auricchio and Jack Cyr in the 4 by 400 (3:25.85); and Portland’s Owen Blades, Oliver Killeen, Everett Smith and Liam Alexander in the 4 by 800 (8:11.95).
