PORTLAND — A Company of Girls+ not only believes in youth, it helps youth to believe in themselves.

Through a popular afterschool program as well as outreach programs, A Company of Girls+ in Portland fills afterschool hours with acceptance, learning, and mentorship rather than emptiness, isolation and negative influences. The arts are used to strengthen young people, with each program designed to help them discover and express their unique and valuable voice.

“A Company of Girls+ provides a comfortable, welcoming space for my daughter to exercise creativity, have great fun and be herself in a supportive and non-competitive environment,” one parent said. “From her very first day, she felt nothing but a sense of belonging and friendship. This is bound to help her grow and learn in so many ways.”

Norway Savings Bank is pleased to continue its support of the organization with a $1,000 donation to help the nonprofit with its impactful work.

“Students build resilience to overcome challenging circumstances and are poised to succeed in school and as they move forward,” Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank, said. “NSB is happy to help the organization as they cultivate self-confidence in a community of respect and acceptance.”

“On behalf of all of us, we thank NSB for playing a part in empowering youth through our arts-based programming. Youth can shed the burdens and hurdles of any challenging circumstances they face and discover new talents, friendships, and opportunities to grow,” Jennifer Roe, executive and artistic director of A Company of Girls+, said. “They build resiliency to face life’s challenges and make healthy and positive choices. We’re so grateful to NSB as the more youth we can reach and the more resources we can provide for them, the greater the benefits to our community.”
