Construction on downtown Bangor’s Pickering Square is expected to resume this week.

Downtown residents and visitors can expect to see work resume in the square soon, with a trellis structure expected to be delivered Friday and installed in the next two weeks, according to Jeff Davis, the city’s engineering director.

The project is now scheduled to wrap up by July 3, two years after it began. Contractor issues and manufacturer delays have dragged out the work, which was expected to take just a few months to complete. Much of the construction was finished late in the fall, but several key features are still missing.

An electrical contractor will be onsite starting Monday to install in-ground lighting, which is also set to be completed within two weeks, Davis added.

After the lights are added, workers will put in art kiosks and finish up smaller tasks like seeding bare areas, according to Davis.

A portion of Pickering Square has been blocked off with orange fencing throughout the winter and spring due to the incomplete work.
