BANGOR — The Bangor Chinese School, in collaboration with the Chinese Language & Culture Center of Maine and Husson University, invites the community to join its 2026 Dragon Boat Festival Celebration at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 in Room 131, Peabody Hall, Husson University.
The event will celebrate one of China’s most beloved traditional holidays, the Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Festival), while also recognizing the two years’ anniversaries of BCS’s Bilingual Childcare Program and the success of 2025-26 school year. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend and experience Chinese culture through food, education, and cultural performance activities.
The Dragon Boat Festival has been celebrated for more than 2,000 years and is known for its colorful dragon boat races and the tradition of eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves). During the celebration, guests will have the opportunity to learn how to make Zongzi while learning about the festival’s history, traditions and cultural significance.
Highlights of the event will include:
- A introduction on the history and traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival
- A celebration of the anniversary of Bangor Chinese School’s Bilingual Childcare Program
- Zongzi appreciation and making with cultural demonstrations
- Perfomances by students, family and friends of Bangor Chinese School.
- Opportunities for community members to connect and learn more about Chinese language and culture programs in the school and Maine
“Events like the Dragon Boat Festival help build bridges between cultures and bring our community together through learning, friendship, and shared experiences,” Jing Zhang, founder and president of Bangor Chinese School and director of Chinese Language & Culture Center of Maine, said.
For more than two decades, Bangor Chinese School has provided Chinese language instruction and cultural education throughout Maine and beyond, serving students of diverse backgrounds and ages. Through its partnership with CLCCM, the organization continues to promote cultural understanding, educational exchange, and global engagement across the state.
