A man allegedly stole a laptop from a car overnight in Bangor only for the victim to use a tracker to lead police to him.
Angelo Harris, 18, has been charged with theft of a firearm by unauthorized taking, theft by unauthorized taking, burglary of a motor vehicle and violation of his conditions of release, according to Katy England, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
Harris allegedly burglarized the vehicle on George Street, between Union and Ohio streets, making off with a laptop and briefcase.
The victim discovered the items were missing Wednesday morning. A neighbor reportedly caught Harris on video checking car doors.
The victim alerted police around 10:26 a.m. that she could see her laptop’s location moving on her map and activated a feature that made the computer beep, England said Thursday afternoon.
When police officers arrived at Coe Park, near the Kenduskeag Stream trail, they spied Harris, who matched the description of the suspect seen on the neighbor’s video footage. They then saw him throw something into the bushes, according to England.
In the bushes, officers found a gun, ammunition, the missing laptop, bank cards, wallets and other stolen items, England said.
Harris, who had an active arrest warrant, was taken into custody and brought to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Thursday afternoon, according to the jail’s website.
