A Meta virtual reality headset that was charging on the nightstand of a Frankfort home exploded on Thursday starting a fire.

The Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department posted two videos from the first floor of the home with a view up a flight of stairs to the bedroom.

In the first, an orange flash is visible as a dog descends the stairs. The flash is accompanied by a rushing sound, and two other dogs come running down the stairs, joining a fourth that was already on the lower level.

In the second video, timestamped roughly two minutes later, all four dogs are downstairs when a loud pop is heard and a brighter flash can be seen on the second floor. Moments later a piece of flaming debris tumbles down the stairs.

The fire department said the nightstand was about 14 feet from the stairs.

The homeowner was outdoors and ran inside to put out the fire, the fire department said. No one was injured, but the homeowner was checked by ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation.

The headset was a Meta Quest 3, according to the fire department who posted images to social media of the burnt remains, along with a damaged lamp.
