Schaub brings decades of outdoor recreation experience and deep knowledge of Maine’s four-season landscape.
PORTLAND – The Maine Sports Commission, a statewide, nonprofit organization that works to advance, elevate, and promote Maine as a four-season sports destination, has named Mark Schaub to its board of directors.
A 21-year veteran Registered Maine Guide with Whitewater Level 2 certification, Schaub has spent 25 years with Northern Outdoors in The Forks. His outdoor recreation experience includes whitewater rafting, boating, skiing, fishing, upland hunting and hiking.
Schaub joined the board May 14 for a three-year term. In addition to his outdoor recreation background, he serves as vice president and Maine regional commercial banking manager at NBT Bank in Portland, bringing business leadership and community perspective to the statewide organization.
“Mark’s deep connection to Maine’s outdoor recreation economy, along with his business leadership and longstanding commitment to community service, make him a strong addition to our Board of Directors,” said Linsey MacDougall, board chair of the Maine Sports Commission. “His perspective will help us continue advancing our mission to promote Maine as a premier four-season sports destination.”
Schaub said he looks forward to contributing to the Maine Sports Commission’s work.
“Outdoor recreation in Maine has long been central to my life, and I’m honored to join the MSC Board to help advance outdoor programming and sporting events across the state,” Schaub said.
A 2007 graduate of the University of Maine, he earned a bachelor’s degree in resource and agribusiness management. He currently serves on the board of the Maine Real Estate & Development Association. His previous board experience includes Pride Portland!, the Equality Community Center Capital Committee and the Maine Wood Products Association.
Maine Sports Commission is a nonprofit organization that works to advance, elevate and promote Maine as a four-season sports destination, strengthening the state through sports tourism, encouraging healthy active lifestyles for all. Sporting events contributed an estimated $155.6 million to the Maine economy and attracted approximately 253,071 out-of-state visitors in 2019, according to a study conducted by the University of Southern Maine’s Center for Business and Economic Research.
