Graham Platner may continue to gloss over his past behavior and internet posts in which he made racist and dangerously sexist remarks, and the current accusations of several — not just one — women who describe him as emotionally volatile, demeaning toward women and physically aggressive, but his disqualifying traits continue to be exhibited to me. In a recent interview, he used the word ” retarded.”

Despite Platner’s explanation that he was a “bad boyfriend” 10 years ago, who was in a “dark place” at the time, suffering from PTSD and depression, but is a “different person” now, I, for one, don’t believe a leopard can change its spots. I believe he is still, in his core, the same person, a product of his life-time background, upbringing and experiences.

Beyond that, how on earth does someone who has had absolutely no experience in public office suddenly appear out of nowhere and qualify for one of the highest offices in our representational government, the U.S. Senate? Unlike most other people to hold such a position, he has not first been a U.S. representative, governor, state senator or representative, nor a county, town, or municipal official. He has not served as a member of a school board or even a drain commissioner or animal control officer. The hubris and delusion!

I can only attribute Sens. Bernie Sanders’ and Elizabeth Warren’s endorsements to the fact that Platner claims to be a Progressive. I’m a life-long Democrat, but I won’t be voting for Graham Platner.
