Pitcher Sidney Nicholls threw a complete-game shutout Saturday as Medomak Valley claimed the Class B softball state championship with a 7-0 victory over Gardiner at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.
Nicholls allowed five hits and walked four while striking out nine.
The Panthers scored in each of the first three innings to build a 3-0 lead, then broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Rheanne Simmons went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead Medomak Valley at the plate. Claudia Feeley and Arianna Sproul each added two hits, with Feeley driving in two runs and Sproul adding a double and an RBI.
Mckenna Hertel drove in two runs and Jennika Schumann added two RBIs and a double for the Panthers, who finished with 10 hits.
