Two deaths on off-road vehicles occurred over the weekend, according to a report from the Maine Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The first reported crash was in Lowell on Friday, where a 75-year-old man was fatally injured at around 4 p.m.

Frank McBride had been driving the ATV along a private dirt road when he veered off the right side of Shore Lane. He struck a metal basketball pole of the Cold Stream Pond resident. He died of the injuries he received in the crash, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the DIF&W.

The second reported crash at around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in Mayfield occurred when a man driving a dirt bike died of his injuries after crashing a dirt bike. David Pooler, 43, of Waterville had been driving along Palmer Pond Road.

According to the DIF&W report, Pooler appeared to have been speeding, and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Both deaths remain under investigation.
