I think Susan Collins fell victim to the Tom Brady syndrome. Brady was destined to go out at the top of his game, a multiple Super Bowl winner, affectionately known as the Greatest of All Time. He talked about quitting, but apparently his ego would not let him do it, so he stuck around for another season and then left as a loser.

Same deal for Collins. She had a distinguished career, plenty of money, and an unmatched consecutive voting record. But seemingly her ego wouldn’t let her go either, and I believe that living in her own bubble she didn’t understand how vulnerable Trump was making her.

Like Brady, her storied career tragically came to an end of her own doing.
