What is one new policy that the state should embrace to make housing easier to build and afford?
permitting more modular homes in all zones, allowing more dense development in areas where environmental (especially water) quality will not be diminished.
Transmission lines, solar incentives and offshore wind development have been controversial over the past several years. What steps should Maine take to meet growing demand for electricity?
We need to keep moving forward to increase the amount of green energy we are producing and encourage our utility companies to improve the grid to absorb more diverse and dispersed power generation.
Should the state make changes to its tax laws? If so, outline your priorities.
This is a complex question as lower and middle income Mainers may need more tax relief while large Maine corporations and wealthier Mainers may not be paying their fair share.
We are closing in on the one-year anniversary of the Lewiston mass shooting. Are further legislative responses required around guns, mental health, supporting victims and families or other policy areas?
Yes, I believe we need to limit bump stocks, create a red flag law, and work to create many more community-based mental health centers, both for mental health treatment and victim/family support.
Describe a unique attribute or area of focus that you will bring to the Legislature.
As Maine’s health insurance code has become more complex, I believe that the state has a need for and responsibility to provide consumer assistance with state health care law. I believe we need a Healthcare Consumer Ombudsman who can help individuals whose coverage has been denied determine if their insurance companies are within Maine law or not, in that denial.
