What is one new policy that the state should embrace to make housing easier to build and afford?
Reducing the time it takes for DEP permit approvals is a policy change which would reduce construction costs resulting in a better financial decision for investors. I’ve heard local planning board approval was granted for a project in-state that then waited 2 years for DEP approval but then the local planning board approval expired, requiring more time and effort just to start the project. That extra cost is eventually passed to the tenants resulting in less than affordable housing.
Transmission lines, solar incentives and offshore wind development have been controversial over the past several years. What steps should Maine take to meet growing demand for electricity?
Removing the 100 megawatt limit on out of state generated hydro-power, while encouraging the use of modern fish-safe hydropower turbines in-state.
Hydro-power is the only renewable power resource providing baseload, but it is artificially restricted to promote multinational corporate-owned wind and solar investments.
The high energy costs of wind and solar are key drivers contributing to rising inflation which will continue to steal from all of us until we course correct.
Should the state make changes to its tax laws? If so, outline your priorities.
I support a commission to study all options to be sure the state is raising funds in a manner of least impact on our year round residents. We need to remove those economic burdens forcing our citizens to move to another state with lower taxes.
We are closing in on the one-year anniversary of the Lewiston mass shooting. Are further legislative responses required around guns, mental health, supporting victims and families or other policy areas?
After studying the report on the Lewiston mass shooting, there appeared to be ample laws, time, and data to prevent this tragedy , but the armed forces’ lack of communication with local law enforcement prevented that.
I do not support weakening the 2nd ammendment.
Describe a unique attribute or area of focus that you will bring to the Legislature.
As an 8th generation Islander and fisherman wearing many hats serving my community and fishing industry over the years, I bring a balanced voice that represents all sides from a non-partisan, independent perspective.
I am focused on seeking solutions rather than stoking political divisions which only hurt our communities and keep us at odds.
