What is one new policy that the state should embrace to make housing easier to build and afford?
LD2003 was a great effort in making housing possible but was short sighted in how that impacts a majority of towns that dont have public sewer systems, we need to embrace policy that makes long term rentals more attractive to investors. The down payment assistance mentioned by the Harris campaign is another good start but we need to find ways to work with lenders to look at rental history as proof a person can afford a house payment, it makes no sense for someone who pays 1400 per month on a rent to be told by a bank they cant afford 800 mortgage. there should be incentives for developing raw land and brand new build sites. there are many abandoned houses and property all over the state could something be done with those properties? we need to start thinking outside the box on this.
Transmission lines, solar incentives and offshore wind development have been controversial over the past several years. What steps should Maine take to meet growing demand for electricity?
All things are controversial when money and politics are involved. I propose a bipartisan committee of equal parts put together facts and answers to all questions regarding each of these initiatives to make sure the public is not swayed by mis information. then the state should proceed with the best ecological and budget friendly options
Should the state make changes to its tax laws? If so, outline your priorities.
I think regularly the tax laws should be revisited and judged on effectiveness, who is it hurting who is it benefiting is it fair and what what are other ways in which we can achieve the same goal other than taxes?
We are closing in on the one-year anniversary of the Lewiston mass shooting. Are further legislative responses required around guns, mental health, supporting victims and families or other policy areas?
I believe common sense is needed, people should be allowed to have guns as has been the tradition of mainers since the founding of our union, however I believe guns like cars should be registered and insured for the same reason cars must be and proof of a gun saftey course is needed when you buy a gun most who own guns already take hunters saftey to get a hunting license . i recognize this is a multi faceted problem and there is no one answer but more accountability is needed to ensure these mass shootings stop.
Describe a unique attribute or area of focus that you will bring to the Legislature.
