The Bangor Daily News strives to be as accurate as possible and will promptly correct all factual errors. We encourage you to contact us if you think you see a mistake. Email all corrections to corrections@bangordailynews.com. Our correction policy is below.
- The decision whether to issue a correction rests with the assignment editor who handled the story, or another senior editor. Requests for corrections must be reviewed before we issue one. We don’t publish a correction for a name spelling simply because we get an anonymous email calling for one, for instance.
- Our format for corrections is to state the general error and then explain the correct information. We don’t repeat erroneous information unless it’s too confusing otherwise.
- A misspelled name is an error of fact, and deserves a correction.
- We correct errors no matter where they occur: in print, in a photo cutline, on the web or in a news alert or email newsletter.
- We don’t unpublish stories, but we do have a process for hiding older crime stories from Google.
