WALDOBORO, Maine - Calais moved into the championship round with a 6-2 victory over South Portland in the state Little League All-Star softball tourney for ages 9-10 Monday.
Pitcher Olivia Smith sparked Calais as she struck out 14 batters in the six-inning game.
Calais improved to 3-0 with the win and is the only unbeaten team left in the tourney. It awaits the winner from the losers bracket in a 3 p.m. championship game on Thursday. A Calais win gives it the title, a loss forces a second game later that day to decide the champ.
Bangor plays Saco today at 5 p.m. in an elimination game with the winner advancing to an elimination game against South Portland on Wednesday, also at 5 p.m.
The winner of Wednesday’ s game plays Calais on Thursday.

Bangor East, Ellsworth win
At Augusta, Bangor East and Ellsworth will battle in an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m. after Bangor East eliminated Rockland Monday 2-1.
Ellsworth posted a win in its opener on Saturday, 9-7 over Saco, but was beaten on Sunday by Cape Elizabeth 5-1 in a winners bracket game.
Bangor East lost its opener to Saco 9-4, but then eliminated Dirigo on Sunday 8-1 and beat Rockland on Monday.
The winner of Tuesday’ s game advances to Wednesday’ s championship round at 5:30 p.m. against unbeaten Cape Elizabeth. A Cape victory gives it the title while a loss forces a second game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
In Monday’ s game, Ryan Brookings allowed only one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts and drove in Bangor East’ s two runs with a first-inning single Ben Crichton singled twice and Drew Powell doubled for the winners.
Nick Muzviek hit a solo home run for Rockland.
In Sunday’ s game, an Ethan Dorman triple and a Nicholas Moore double paced the Bangor East offense. Ryan Moore picked up the victory with three innings of scoreless pitching.
