CALAIS – Ruth A. Redding, 89, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Ruth was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Calais, daughter of the late William and Eugenia (Sullivan) Townsend. She worked as a clerk for the Maine Department of Human Services for more than 35 years. Ruth was a member of United Methodist Church of Calais and Orion Chapter No. 45 Order of the Eastern Star. During her retirement years, Ruth enjoyed the time she and her husband, Bob spent at their camp on Cathance Lake. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Frances Weeks; and three brothers, Norman, John and Charles Townsend. Surviving are her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Redding of Calais; a brother, Stewart Townsend and his wife, Ramona Mahar, of Hollis Center; a sister-in-law, Margaret Talbot of Rockland; several nieces, neph-ews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who have benefited from her love and generosity; and a special friend, Marjorie Morrison of Calais. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
