PEMBROKE and MACHIAS On Aug. 15, 2008, God called his angel, Agnes Stanhope, home. Agnes was a woman, who although had no biological children, was loved by any son or daughter whose life she touched. She lived her life caring for others. To know love, kindness and laughter was to know Agnes. Born Aug. 19, 1921, to Ernest and Myrtie Carter, Agnes lived her life in the Downeast community. Agnes was predeceased by her sister, Alicia in 2006. She is survived by several cousins, stepnieces and nephews. Agnes was especially close to her niece, Karen Stevens; and Karen’s two oldest granddaughters, Makayla and Kelsi Newell, who for eight years always enjoyed opening Agnes’ gifts for her at Christmas and other special times. She also leaves behind the wonderful staff at Marshall’s Health Care, who for eight years made Agnes feel she was home. Thank you all for your love and kindness to her. Agnes was very easy to love and forever will be missed. There will be no public viewing. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke, with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a pet shelter of your choice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com.
