GRACEVILLE, Fla. – Bette Bryant Whittier died Aug. 15, 2008, in Graceville, Fla., after a period of declining health. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in East Vassalboro, daughter of Samuel and Anna Lamson Bryant. Bette grew up in Freedom and graduated from Freedom Academy and Maine Medical Center School of Nursing. She married Walter Whittier in 1940 and spent her life with him in the Army. He died in 1989. Bette and Walt were friends to many and enjoyed their life together. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Hope and Polly; as well as her son-in-law, Roscoe Dolliver. She is survived by her amazing caring daughter, Lynda Dolliver; her much loved niece, Annette Woodbury; and her good friend and neighbor, Bonnie. Bette is survived by her grandchildren, John Seitz and Natalie, Michael Seitz, Phil Seitz, Stephany Dolliver Schlenker and Patrick, and Matthew Dolliver; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Seitz, Mia Seitz and Connor Schlenker. Bette also leaves her daughter, Sandra Whittier and her husband, Joe LaBranche, and their granddaughter, Isabella. A service will be held Oct. 8 at Arlington National Cemetery, where Bette will be buried with her husband.
