GEORGE S. HUNT BANGOR – George S. Hunt went to join the army of the Lord Aug. 25, 2008, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born July 16, 1921, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hunt; and the brother of Doris Hunt. George joined the Salvation Army in December 1976 and was a dedicated senior soldier through his passing. For many years, George worked for the Salvation Army at local grocery stores, passing out literature and accepting donations. He was employed by Sensible Solutions of Bangor for the last several years of his career, where he managed the Book and Media Department at a local consignment store, until his retirement in 2007. George was a soft-spoken man with strong convictions who made friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed by his co-workers at Sensible Solutions, his church family at the Salvation Army, his friends at Broadway Coffee Shop, as well as his many other friends. He is survived by his “granddaughter,” Sheri L. Lovering of Bangor; his close personal friend, Tom Larcombe of Bangor; and his lifelong friend, Jane. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, with Majs. Doug and Debbie Burr, former officers of the Bangor Salvation Army Corps, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service at the Salvation Army Corps building, 65 South Park St., Bangor. If you would like to remember George in a special way, gifts in his memory may be sent to Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, 65 South Park St., Bangor, ME 04401.
