MURRAY R. BILLINGTON BARRINGTON, N.H. – Murray R. Billington, 74, of Calef Island, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, N.H. Murray was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Bangor, the son of Richard F. and Thelma M. (Sullivan) Billington. Murray had been the director of purchases for the University of Maine, Orono, for the past 25 years. A native of Bangor, he graduated from Bangor High School in 1952 and Maine Maritime Academy in 1955. After service as a Merchant Marine, he served in the U.S. Navy as a ship’s communications officer for two years. In 1961 he graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics. Murray was a member of the Naval Reserve, Maine Purchasing Agents Association and National Association of Educational Buyers. Murray loved sailing, fishing, cutting and chopping wood. Murray is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Tuttle) Billington; his daughters, Darby Thomas and her husband, Bruce, of Bedford, Stacey Billington of Dover-Foxcroft, Kristin Fournier and her husband, Ed, of Auburn and Dana Morris and her husband, David, of Bangor; his two stepdaughters, Lynne Bohman of Barrington, N.H., and Karen Henry and her husband, Jean; his brothers, Robert Billington and his wife, Arlene, of Bath; a half brother, Stephen Martinez of Belton, Mo.; and 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by one grandson, Johnson S. Henry. Family flowers only. Friends and family may call 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Con-cord Road, Route 4, Lee, N.H., where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Monson Alley of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Dover, officiating. Interment with military honors will be after at Pine Grove Cemetery, Barrington, N.H.
