Maine Republicans are universally praising John McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate.<

Sen. Olympia Snowe says McCain’s selection demonstrates “his willingness and commitment to push boundaries and transform America.” Sen. Susan Collins says that as a woman, a wife and a mother of five, Palin “would bring a unique perspective to the office.”<

Maine House Republican Leader Josh Tardy described Palin as “independent-mindedm maverick-type leader” who’ll resonate well in Maine and across the nation.<

State Chairman Mark Ellis was in Minneapolis in at a GOP meeting in advance of next week’s convention when the announcement was made. He says McCain’s running mate has more executive experience than Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.<
