JOYCE JOAN CHESLEY LINCOLN – Joyce Joan (Curtis) Chesley, 69, died Aug. 29, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. Joyce was born May 13, 1939, in Bangor. She was the daughter of George R. and Lida Gordon Curtis. She attended schools in Lincoln and graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1957. Joyce married Melvin A. Chesley Sr., June 10, 1958. Together they operated Chesley Farms, Lincoln. Among one of her greatest achievements, Joyce was nominated for the Hero of the Year Award in 2004 for her tireless efforts as part of a successful fund raising campaign to bring the Lincoln Lakes Region Dialysis Center to Lincoln. Joyce’s strength and courage during her illness was an inspiration to all that knew her. Joyce is survived by her husband, Melvin; and daughters, Barbara Montgomery of Lincoln and Sandra Zerio of Tolland, Conn.; four sisters, Marguerite Powers and Lorena Powers of East Millinocket, Mary Parsons of Lincoln and Victoria Knights of Brookton; five brothers, George, Franklin, Calvin and Newton Curtis of Lincoln and Gordon Curtis of Milo; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Melvin Chesley Jr.; and two sisters, Decima Curtis and Glendine Maiwald. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Young officiating.
