SARAH SMALL (TUCKER) STROUT CHERRYFIELD – Sarah Small (Tucker) Strout, 88, of Milbridge, died Sept. 3, 2008, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. She was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Cherryfield, to the late Frank and Susan (Smith) Tucker. Sarah attended school and graduated in 1938 from Cherryfield Academy. Sarah married the late Verne Caywood Strout, Oct. 7, 1938, and resided most of their lives in Milbridge, raising her children and working many years at Milbridge Nursing Home and local sardine factories. Sarah loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, making new friends and visiting her daughter Judy in Texas for several winters. Sarah lived her life to the fullest. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Cherryfield, a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Alcyone Chapter No. 71 of Milbridge and a life member of Columbia Union Church Society of Columbia. Sarah is survived by her children, Carroll Strout and wife, Ronie, of Addison, Judy Sprague of Milbridge and Ruberta Plummer and her husband, Stephen, of Jonesboro; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Maynard Tucker of Baldwinville, Mass.; two sisters, Susie Brewer and her husband, Homer, of Londonderry N.H., and Ruberta Tucker of Tilton, N.H.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sarah was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Caywood in 1989; an infant daughter, Jeannette Ann in 1940; a special son-in-law, Ronald F. Sprague Sr. in 2003; and a great-grandson, Bret Plummer in 2001. She was also predeceased by five brothers, Merrill, Clayton, Sidney, Frank Jr. and Robert; four sisters, Abigail, Flora, Ruth and Glennis; and a special friend, Esther Huckings of Milbridge. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, River Road, Cherryfield. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at First Congregational Church, Cherryfield. Interment will be at Columbia Cemetery, Columbia.
