THORNDIKE, Maine — A 23-year-old Nobleboro woman suffered minor injuries in a single-car accident Friday afternoon at the intersection of Route 220 and Leonard Road, police said.

Christina Powell was driving her 1996 Saab north on Route 220 at 1:40 p.m. when she left the road on the right side, went into the soft gravel on the shoulder and came back on the road, said Deputy Scott Jones of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department.

“She struck two telephone poles on the passenger’s side and totaled the vehicle,” Jones said. “She was on her way to a wedding.”

Powell was taken by Unity Volunteer Ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast; she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Jones said the driver was lucky because the vehicle “crinkled well.”

“The car was bent in the shape of a C,” Jones said. “I’ve never seen one like that.”

Speed was a factor in the accident, he said, although no charges have been filed.
