BANGOR and BREWER – Dorothy “Dot” E. King passed away peacefully on her 87th birthday at a local health care facility. She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Old Town, the daughter of McClellan “Clarence” and Queen (McLaughlin) Sawtelle. Dot married “Bud” Harry G. King of Orono, July 10, 1944, in Orono. In the early years, Dot worked for the phone company. Later she worked for Robert Hall Clothing, Brewer, where she was known as the “white haired lady at Robert Hall.” Dot later worked for the Old Town Water Co., with her sister, Lillian Tait. Dot enjoyed crafts, knitting, yard sales, bingo and watching the horses at Bass Park. She was a wonderful cook known for her chocolate chip cookies. Dot and Bud lived most of their life and raised their family on Wilson Street, Brewer. She is survived by her four children, Susan and Jim Hathorne of Lyman, Jim and Anne King of Missoula, Mont., Sally King of Glenburn and Danny and Julie King of Orrington; she was beloved Nana to 13 grandchildren, Lori, Becky, Meridith, Erin, Jamie, Bethany, Andy, Jarred, Morgan, Matthew, Michelle, Mikaela and Michael; a brother, Raymond Sawtelle of Texas; she was known as “Nana King” to many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, John Schwanner; sisters, Marguerite, Mildred and Lillian; brothers, Harold and Francis; and her beloved husband Bud died July 10, 1982. The family would like to thank the staff of Engel Place at Ross Manor for the wonderful care given to Dot for the past several years. Friends are invited to call noon-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will begin 1 p.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
