DALE W. STEWART – NORTH YARMOUTH – Dale W. Stewart, 80, died Sept. 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at his home. He was born June 21, 1928, in Linneus, the son of Georgia and Ervin Stewart. Dale drove truck for Walter D. Davis of Houlton for 40 years. He and his wife, Leona, then moved to Bangor where they were site managers at St. Xavier’s for 11 years. They then retired to Rocky Mount, N.C., where they lived with family for four years before returning to Maine and made their home in North Yarmouth. Dale enjoyed being outdoors; be it mowing the lawn or picking blueberries, and in his younger years, hunting with family and friends. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, the Red Sox and swapping stories – he was a true storyteller. He also enjoyed reading, watching Westerns and doing puzzles, but most of all he just loved spending time with family and friends. Dale especially enjoyed returning to Houlton to visit his family and many close friends there. Dale seemed to be calm about everything in his life with an attitude or motto of “Don’t get excited.” Dale will be remembered for so many things; his love of teasing those he loved, being gentle and very caring, taking his daughters on trucking trips, and being a kind and loving husband. His love for his family was returned during his illness when it brought them all closer together and strengthened them even more as a family. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Leona of North Yarmouth; his five daughters, Sherry Talmadge and husband, Bob, of Greenwich, N.Y., Cindy Laprise and husband, Paul, of Biddeford, Nancy Brown and fiance, Joe Gizinski, of Lewiston, Susan Basso and husband, Curt, of Turner, and Wanda Grass and husband, Dana, of North Yarmouth; his stepchildren, Raymond Hills and wife, Debra, of Bangor, Richard Hills of Houlton, and Elizabeth Suitter and husband, Jerry, of Rocky Mount, N.C.; his 11 grandchildren seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Glen Stewart and wife, Vallie, of Linneus, and Lee Stewart of Houlton; his sister, Joyce Tracey and husband, Terry, of Houlton; and sister-in-law, Laverne Stewart, also of Houlton. He was predeceased by his parents, Georgia and Ervin; his brothers, Wendall, Clifton and Floyd, all of Linneus; his sister, Elva Sawyer of Houlton; and stepdaughter, Patricia Suitor of Smyrna. At Dale’s request there will be no services. For those who wish, donations may be made in Dale’s memory to Cary Library Memorial Fund, 107 Main St., Houlton, ME 04730.
