AUBURN – Hilda A. Saunders, 93, formerly of Bath and Orland, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Clover Manor Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Orland, a daughter of Harvey H. and Bertella Ware Saunders, and was educated in the Orland schools. Hilda had worked in domestic service and as a cook in the Bath and Auburn area for many years. She had made her home in Auburn for the past 30 years. Hilda enjoyed spending time with family, sewing, tatting, crocheting, and was an excellent cook. She was predeceased by four brothers, Paul, Merle, Hudson and Leroy Saunders; and two sisters, Annette Clifford and Clara Hinkley. Surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Burke of Auburn, Emma Simmons of Bucksport, and Virginia Farren and her husband, Harley, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Saunders of Orland; a brother-in-law, Wallace Hinkley of Bath; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Route 1, Orland.
