SCARBOROUGH – Abel Pelletier, 81, beloved husband of Viola Hebert Pelletier, died June 15, 2006, after a long battle with multi-infarct dementia and co-morbidities at the Barron Center Health Care Facility in Portland. He was born in Frenchville, the son of the late Albert and Alice Cyr Pelletier. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and Council 2638 of Madawaska. Abel helped with the building of the K of C Hall on Fox Street. Abel was a first class electrician at Fraser Paper Co. in Madawaska for 43 years. He bought his parents’ farm, which included various farm animals. Abel added 62 head of cattle to the farm; 45 of these were dairy cattle. He also planted potatoes, oats, hay and buckwheat. He managed the farm for 10 years while working at Fraser Paper and after 10 years he sold the farm. Abel loved new cars, family pets, and working on his car, yard or repairs as needed. His greatest love was his wife and children and their families. After he retired, he and his wife lived with their son and his family in Cincinnati, Ohio for six years. He enjoyed the big malls where he liked to walk and sit at the food court while people-watching. When Abel’s children were young, he and his wife enjoyed taking them on vacations every summer near the ocean. His love of travel continued when his family grew with trips with his wife and trips with his children and their families. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Viola; three sons and a daughter, Roger Pelletier and his wife, Maureen and their daughters, Nicole and Monique, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Reno Pelletier and his wife, Margaret, of Orrington; Joel Pelletier and his daughters, Jenna, Brittany and Taylor, of Frenchville; Lisa and her husband, Allan LaBonty and their daughter, Andrea and son, Matthew, of Scarborough. Abel is also survived by two brothers and eight sisters, Bertrand and his wife, Patricia, of Terryville, Conn., Joseph Elden and his wife, Diane, of Terryville, Conn., Aurore Sirois of Madawaska, Georgette and her husband, Gilbert Plourde, of Plainville, Conn., Lorraine and her husband, Albert Raymond, of Maringo, III., Rolande and her husband, Anthime Pelletier, of Coventry, Conn., Jeanne Pelletier of Madawaska, Thelma Thibodeau of St. Basile, New Brunswick, Blanche Pelletier of Las Vegas, Nev., Marcella Potvin of Southington, Conn. Abel is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Alice Cyr Pelletier; his two sisters, Jermaine and Bernice Pelletier; and one brother, Noel Pelletier. The wake will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, June 18, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 19, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Committal will be at a later date in St. Thomas Parish Cemetery in Madawaska.
