JONESBORO – Affie L. Carlson, 85, passed away July 3, 2007, at Maine Veterans’ Home, Machias, after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Jonesboro, the daughter of the late Harvey M. and Charlotte A. (Farnsworth) Look. Affie made her home with her grandmother, Affie; and her aunt, Millie Look. She graduated from Jonesboro High School. Affie also attended and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in education, a profession which she followed for 33 years, retiring in 1975. She taught in Centerville, South Paris, Orono, and Irondequoit and Queensbury, N.Y. Affie married her first husband, Willard S. Knight Jr., of Jonesboro, in 1945. Her second husband was J. Raymond Carlson, whom she married in Cromwell, Conn., in 1977. She was a faithful member of the Jonesboro Grange, Eastern Star and the Jonesboro Union Church and Auxiliary. Affie was also the organist at the church until her health failed. In April 2007, Affie was honored with the Maine Health Care Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her commitment to her family, the community, and the education of children. Affie is survived by her daughter, Susan Knight of Jonesboro; stepchildren, Garry Carlson of Florida, and John Carlson and Sandra Rich of Connecticut; grandson, Frank Usher and wife, Tammy and their children, Scott and Brianna of Queensbury, N.Y.; special cousins, Sandra Kelch of South Carolina, Adelaide Damon of Bangor, Anne White and Evelyn Dowling; several nieces and nephews, all of Jonesboro; and special friends, Annie B. White of Jonesport and Vergie Whitney of Jonesboro. She was predeceased by her second husband; and beloved brothers, Frank, Lysten, Robert, Daniel and Carroll Look. The family thanks all of the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Machias, for their love and kindness to Affie. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Jonesboro Union Church officiated by Pastor George Woodward. Burial will be held after at Looks Point Cemetery, Jonesboro. After the service, friends and family are invited to the Chandler River Community Center for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
