PRESQUE ISLE – Albert C. Brewer Jr., 82, died at a Bangor hospital, Jan. 14, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 16, 1923, in Presque Isle, the son of Albert C. Sr. and Helene (Plummer) Brewer. He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Class of 1940. He attended the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1944, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Albert served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a Marine guard on ships going through the Panama Canal. He was a potato farmer and raised beef cattle in Presque Isle for many years. Albert received numerous awards for his participation in the Aroostook Beef Producers Association and in 1994, received the Maine Beef Producers “Producer of The Year” award. He was a member and associate director of the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. He was also a member of the Aroostook Farm Bureau Association and had served as past master of the Maysville Grange. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joan (Grant) Brewer of Presque Isle; two sons, Carlton C. Brewer and his wife, Linda, of Old Town, Scott Brewer of Presque Isle; two daughters, Helene Bernard and her husband, Mike, of Presque Isle and Surprise, Ariz. and Ann Gosselin and her husband, Dan, of Gorham; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three sisters, JoAnne Irving and her husband, Dana, of Boca Raton, Fla., Theresa Kisner of Charlestown, W.Va. and Bridget Hayden of Spokane, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Ernest Hughes and his wife, Nancy, of Orange Park, Fla. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Terrance; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hayden; and a special cousin and friend, Paul Brewer. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Blackstone, officiating. A time of conversation and refreshments will immediately follow in the reception area of the funeral home.
