PORTAGE LAKE – Albert J. “Gib” Gagnon, 91, died Oct. 3, 2007, at a Caribou hospital. He was born March 7, 1916, in Wallagrass, the son of Thomas and Meddie (Deprey) Gagnon. Our dad, a kind and generous family man and friend to all. Gone to his final home in heaven to be with his wife, our mom. He loved making yummy molasses cookies, which he shared with everyone. Gib was a farmer early in life and also worked in the lumber industry for a few years. His principal occupation was a forester for Dunn Timberlands. He also served as a fire warden for several years for the Maine Forest Service. For 12 years he was a member of Search and Rescue and was also founder of PAMSONG Credit Union. Gib was also a member of the Ashland Fish and Game Club, as well as one of the founders of Ashland Logging Museum. As a certified Maine guide, he knew much about the woods. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2889, Ashland, and the Fourth Degree Assembly No. 2524, Presque Isle. Together with his wife, Edwina, they raised 11 children. Gib is survived by six sons, Darey Gagnon and his fianc?e, Maryanne Caron, Douglas Gagnon and his wife, Kathy, John Gagnon and his wife, Marcelle, Wayne Gagnon and his wife, Carol, and Antoine Gagnon and his wife, Gail, all of Portage Lake and Gilbert Gagnon and his wife, Angela, of Cazenovia, N.Y.; five daughters, Rose Lorrey and her husband, Edward, of Hudson, N.H., Barbara Daniels and her husband, Gregory, of Presque Isle, Beverly Miller and husband, Louie, of Meridan, Conn., Sandra Soucy and her husband, Darrell, of Portage Lake and Peggy Gagnon and Pam Heckman of Rochester, N.H.; three brothers, Arnold Gagnon of Millinocket, Ellis Gagnon of Lebanon, Conn., and Lawrence Gagnon of Auburn; three sisters, Lillian Daigle of Medway, Nellie Carney of Winthrop and Ruth Coro and her husband, Walter, of Alfred. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Edwina (Dubois) Gagnon; one son, Richard Albert Gagnon; and two sisters, Delpine Gerald of Winthrop and Bernice Labelle of Ashland. Friends may visit 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, and 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, until the time of service 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Lake, Portage Lake. Committal service and interment will be at Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery immediately after the service. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Ashland Logging Museum, P.O.
