ISLAND FALLS – Albert Wallace Ireland, known as Al, died April 16, 2005, at age 53, after his courageous will to live. He was born June 13, 1951, in Methuen, Mass., the son of Millard W. Ireland and Anita L. (Rousseau) Ireland. Al was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Methuen, Mass. He worked for Hemingway’s in Massachusetts and then moved to Maine, where he worked for the Brewer division of Dead River as a diesel mechanic until he became disabled. Al is survived by his devoted wife and soul mate, Jerolyn; three special daughters, Mary, Diana and Barbara, all of Bangor; a son, Mark Boutilier and his wife, Krista, of Houlton; four sisters, Barbara Bouley and her husband, Steven, of Mill Spring, N.C., Linda Bradley and her husband, Stephen, of Derry, N.H., Patricia Bryson and her husband, Emile, of Derry, N.H., Catherine Fichter and her husband, James, of San Diego, Calif.; and a brother, Raymond Ireland of Island Falls, several nieces and nephews. Al also had an unofficial adopted family, David, Ruth, Thomas, Joseph and Jenica Frazier, the extended Boutilier family; and two special buddies, Cheryl Corbin and Wendy Jewell. Al also had many special friends. Al didn’t let adversity keep him down; he lived a full life and enjoyed boating, gardening, living on Mattawamkeag Lake, music, dining out with friends at the Horn of Plenty, and volunteering at the Aroostook Band of Micmacs’ functions, and he felt honored to know the Micmac people. He enjoyed spending time with his pets. He was treasurer of the Island Falls Fish & Game for the past five years. After being introduced to travel, Al became a Disney junky, loving Mickey Mouse and Tigger, too. The time spent doing tours on Mattawamkeag Lake was dear to his heart. Another special part of his life was being a therapeutic foster parent. Al was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild. To honor Albert’s life, friends are invited to calling hours 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
