ORONO – Alberta I. “Bertie” Cota, 78, wife of Donald F. Cota, died Feb. 3, 2005, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Orono, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Marshman) Sullivan. Whenever there was a need for a volunteer, Bertie was there. In her earlier years, as a mother, she was involved with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and the Parent Teachers Association. Bertie was the office manager for the Orono Health Assn., for many years retiring in 2000. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Past President of the Parish Council, member of the Church Life Commission, Lector and Eucharistic Minister, Past State Regent of the Daughters of Isabelle, Past Regent for St. Mary’s Circle Daughters of Isabelle, Past President of the Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald F. Cota of Orono; seven children, Diane Cota-O’Connell of Church Falls, Va., Donald Cota of Macwahoc, Michael Cota and his wife, Patty, of South Harpswell, Mary Ellen and her husband, Michael Dow, of Deering, Nadine and her husband, David Jones, of Orono, Charles Cota of Milford, Irene Cota-McCormick of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Rita Fortier of Orono; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by four brothers and sisters, John Sullivan, Thomas Sullivan, Maureen Little, Dana Sullivan; and two very special aunts, Alice Sullivan, and Irene Sullivan. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, where a 7 p.m. prayer service and the Rosary will be led by the Daughters of Isabelle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Orono with Rev. Joseph Koury, pastor, celebrant. Spring interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. The family invites relatives and friends to come and celebrate Bertie’s “Catholic Irish Life” at the Bear Brew Restaurant, Orono, immediately following the service.
