ABBOT – Alden A. Race, 81, died Dec. 29, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Homes, Bangor. He was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Abbot, son of Glenn and Mae (Kirk) Race. Alden served in the U.S. Navy, beginning in World War II and retiring as a chief petty officer. After his retirement from the Navy, he made a career of helping others. He loved woodworking and helping with fixer-up projects for family and friends. He is survived by uncles, including Harland Kirk of Washington state and Ervin Kirk of Abbot and several cousins.
