CORINTH – Alexander “Al” Haney Sr., 86, died Nov. 27, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Washburn, the son of Lyman and Mary (Tidd) Haney. Al served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He started his working career as a pattern maker for a shoe company and worked most of his life in the shoe industry. He was vice-president of production for Hyde Athletics later in his career. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and the Marine Corps League. Al is survived by his wife, Eleanor Stratton of Bangor; four sons, Alexander Haney Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Corinth, Thomas Haney of Connecticut, Allen Folger of Wales, Mass., and Robert Provost of Monson, Mass.; five daughters, Judy and her husband, Reil Benoit, of Pennsylvania, Therese and her husband, Dick Wonderle, of Holland, Mass., Sandra Haney of Southbridge, Mass., Rhonda and her husband, Robert Brown, of Brownville, and Melody Hill of Monson, Mass.; one brother, J. Wesley Haney of Corinth; two sisters, Mary Allen of Corinth and Margaret Simonds of Brimfield, Mass.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Gagnon; stepson, Arthur Folger; two brothers, Paul and Phillip Haney; and his sister, Therese Henderson. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider.
