MEDWAY – Alfred James Brackett, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, with his family by his side at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. Alfred was born April 21, 1926, in Bridgewater, the oldest child of Edward and Beatrice (Cullins) Brackett. Alfred, a World War II veteran, served two years in the U.S. Army and was a decorated war hero with two Bronze Stars. While on furlough, he met the love of his life, his precious wife of 60 years, Myrtle Cullins Brackett. Alfred enjoyed fishing, fiddle heading and trips to the Scenic View Rest Area. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Terry Brackett and Jamie Brackett of Medway; a daughter, Joleen Ladd and her partner, James Murray, of Medway; a daughter-in-law, Glenna Stevens; a sister, Edna Cullen and her husband, William, of Stacyville; a brother, Sherley Brackett and his wife, Carolee, of Mattawamkeag; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Alana Ladd, Ricky Ladd and his girlfriend, Amanda Taylor, Jason Ladd and Jon Ladd, all of Medway, Joshua and Megan Ladd of Otis, Jasmyn Murray of Medway, Susan and Philip Perkins, Melissa Brackett and partner, Ralph Birt, Terry Brackett Jr., all of Medway, Lance Brackett of Bangor, Darcy Brackett of Rhode Island and Chad and Daisy Brackett of Medway; 16 great-grand-children, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alfred will also be sadly missed by his two feline friends, Chip Chop and Fat Girl. He was predeceased by two sons, Ricky in 1982 and Allen in 1994; and a daughter-in-law, Sheralee Brackett in 1995. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Tri-Town Baptist Church, 8 Cone St., East Millinocket, with Pastor Dave Chicoine officiating.
