BUCKSPORT – Alfreda L. (Chipman) Sutherland, 77, died April 22, 2007, at a Blue Hill hospital. She was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Orrington, daughter of Stephen V. and Helen (Colby) Chipman. Alfreda was a past master and 50-year member of the Verona Grange No. 206 and Hancock Pamona Grange No. 13. She enjoyed her flower gardens, baking, watching the snowfall out the window, and playing and singing bluegrass at the many festivals she would attend with her husband, John. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, John C. Sutherland in 2002. She is survived by four children, Shanon Giroux and her husband, Ricky, of Prospect, Verne “Jake” Sutherland and his wife, Cheryl, of Bucksport, Wesley Sutherland and his wife, Cheryl, of Bucksport, and Dwayne Sutherland and his wife, Lisa, of Bucksport; six grandchildren, Cameron Giroux and his wife, Nikki, Trevor Giroux, Christy Allison and her husband, Steven, Justin Sutherland, Adam Sutherland, and Sarah Sutherland; two stepgrandchildren, Robert Gray Jr. and Jeremy Gray; three great-stepgrandchildren, Matthew Allison, Landon Allison and Alexis Gray; one great-grandchild, MacKenzie Giroux; one sister, Melissa Chipman; several nieces and nephews, and in-laws; her special caregivers, Stanley and Laura Joyce of Deer Isle; and her many bluegrass friends. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
