Pictured here circa 1924, are Walter Long Bridges of East Blue Hill and Alice P. McKenney of Bangor. They married in 1927, by “shotgun wedding” -just a trick to fool their parents. Walter loved Maine. He knew the names of every bird, animal and tree. Walter and Alice moved to New York City to find work during the Great Depression. There they raised a daughter, Constance Mary Bridges. They retired back to Bangor in 1970. My grandfather fell ill in 1975 and died in 1976. My grandmother died in 2006 at the ripe old age of 98. May 10, 2008, would have been her 100th birthday. Happy Birthday, Granma! I will love you forever!
