BELFAST – Alice Shibles Meservey, 90, entered eternal rest peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2004, with her family by her side. Born March 30, 1914, in Knox, she was the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude Daggett Shibles. She graduated from Freedom Academy, Freedom, in 1932. She married the late Frederick Meservey Oct. 20, 1933, in Ablion, who died January 2000. She was employed at Philbrick’s Hardware on Main Street for many years. Before her retirement she worked as a supervisor in the kitchen for SAD 34 for 25 years and oversaw 11 schools in the district. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfast, and the Eastern Star. Alice loved to cook, sew and going on country rides. She loved her family and has always knitted mittens, hats and socks for everyone. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and one brother, David Shibles. She is survived by five children, Nancy and her husband, Reginald Rhodes, of Belfast, Harold and his wife, Joyce Meservey, of Taylor, Ariz., Gertrude Lapham of Searsmont, Annie and her husband, Robert Miles, of Waldo, and Richard and his wife, Shirley Meservey, of Freeport; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a special nephew, Charles and his wife, Pam Higgins, of Belfast. Donations preferred to the Waldo County YMCA, 157 Lincolnville Ave., Belfast, ME 04915. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. June 12, at the Thorndike Center Cemetery, Thorndike.
