BERNARD – Alison “Al” H. Price II, 64, died unexpectedly April 4, 2005, at his home. Al was born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and attended The Germantown Friends School and Earlham College. From the time that Al was very young his love of the sea was evident. He spent much of his boyhood at the New Jersey shore in boats on the ocean. As a young man he spent time working alongside his father at The Price Institute conducting research for pharmaceutical development. After a few years at this work, Al combined his research experience and his love of the ocean and worked for a number of years at the Ira Darling Center at the University of Maine studying the impact of the former Maine Yankee Nuclear Plant on the local aquaculture. Once Al finished this research, he went on to work as a commercial fisherman – a job he went back to numerous times in his life. One of Al’s more recent endeavors was working for the National Marine Fisheries as an observer on offshore fishing boats. Al also devoted about 10 years to the town of Tremont serving in many capacities including selectman and Harbormaster. Al is survived by his wife of 24 years, Suanne; his children, Rachel and Alison III; stepchildren, Jennifer and Daniel; six grandchildren; four brothers, Neil, Franklin, Lowell and Robert; and two sisters, Robin and Alice. The family has requested that donations be made in Al’s memory to The Southwest Harbor Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 434, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679.
